Thailand’s Tourism Authority has announced “Nihao Month” to celebrate 50 years of Thailand-China relations. The events will take place from September to October and will feature special appearances, festivals, and travel promotions aimed at attracting 250,000 Chinese visitors.
Bangkok, 19 August 2024 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has unveiled “Nihao Month,” featuring special events and promotions from September to October. These activities lead up to the 50th Anniversary of Thailand-China relations in 2025. The festival aims to strengthen tourism cooperation between the two nations. Notably, famous Chinese actor Luo Yunxi, alongside Thai actors DaOu Pittaya Sae-chow and Mai Davika Hoorne, will make special appearances at key events.
Events and Promotions
Mr. Sermsak Pongpanit, Minister of Tourism and Sports, and Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, introduced “Nihao Month.” A highlight is the “Amazing Thailand, Mid-Autumn Night” on 17 September at Parc Paragon, featuring Luo Yunxi. Additionally, Thai artists will perform in the “Sound of Friendship Concert” in October at Siam Paragon. Joint promotions will offer special deals on airfares, accommodations, and activities for Chinese tourists traveling between September and December.
Boosting Tourism
TAT aims to draw 250,000 Chinese tourists during Golden Week, with various promotional activities expected to generate significant online reach. Special deals for Chinese passport holders, active from 19 September to 31 October, are also in place. Two Thailand-China friendship caravan trips are scheduled, targeting luxury and leisure travelers. With mutual visa exemptions and strategic marketing, Thailand anticipates reaching 7.3 million Chinese tourist arrivals by year-end.

- TAT is also organizing two Thailand-China friendship caravan trips, one covering Lao PDR, Thailand, and Malaysia, and the other focused on northern Thailand.
China-Thailand Tourism Trends
- China is Thailand’s largest visitor market, contributing 11 million tourists in the pre-pandemic year 2019, and showing signs of rebound with 3.5 million visitors in 2023.
- Buoyed by Thailand-China mutual visa exemption and TAT’s strategic marketing campaigns, Thailand has already recorded 4.5 million arrivals from China between 1 January and 17 August 2024, and is expected to reach the year’s target of 7.3 million arrivals.
