The suspension of the TM6 immigration form for foreigners entering Thailand via 16 land and sea checkpoints has been extended until April 30 next year.
- The TM6 form is the arrival/departure card, which foreigners are required fill out with their passport information and other personal and travel information when entering or leaving Thailand. The form was permanently cancelled for foreign travellers arriving by air since July 2022.
- The use of TM6 immigration forms will remain suspended until April 30 next year, while a new electronic travel authorisation (ETA) system is developed, potentially including a tourism fee.
- The ETA system will allow tourists from 93 countries to register online before arrival in Thailand and use a QR code to pass through automated immigration gates.
- The suspension of the TM6 form is aimed at improving immigration services, reducing congestion at checkpoints, and boosting tourism, particularly in Songkhla province.
This is to improve immigration services, reduce congestion, and boost tourism. A new electronic travel authorisation (ETA) system is being developed to replace the TM6 form, allowing tourists from 93 countries to register online before arrival. The system may also integrate the collection of tourism fees.
The Songkhla Tourism Promotion Association expects the waiver of the TM6 form to increase daily Malaysian arrivals to the province by 50%.
