Several foreign embassies in Thailand have issued alerts to inform their citizens of political gatherings this weekend.
An alert issued by the U.S. embassy in Bangkok said political gatherings had been planned at various locations across Thailand and that the skytrain system in Bangkok could become a spontaneous protest site.
The statement went on to say that the Thai government had on Thursday declared a state of emergency for the capital city.
The British embassy warned its citizens in Thailand and those planning to travel to the kingdom to avoid all protest venues and be mindful of their actions in public, while the government of Canada is recommending a “high degree of caution.”
Other countries that have issued similar alerts include Canada, Switzerland, Indonesia and New Zealand.
Thailand – Exercise a high degree of caution
In the meantime, the progressive movement group has demanded the government release key leaders of the free youth rally and suggested the government lift the emergency decree and let public transport systems run as usual.
