The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to advise tourists and locals planning to travel into central Bangkok on 8 April, 2017, to take note that some lanes of Sukhumvit Road will be closed to traffic between 17.00 and 21.30 Hrs.
This is due to the staging of the Amazing Songkran Joyful Procession which will kick off the Amazing Songkran Festival Experience 2017.
All road closures and diversions will be managed so as to ensure as little disruption to traffic as possible. The closures are as follows:
One lane of Sukhumvit Road between Bangkok Planetarium and Sukhumvit 24 will be closed as this area is the starting point of the procession (closure time: 17.00-18.30 Hrs.)
All traffic between Sukhumvit 24 and 22 will be closed to allow for the opening ceremony of the Amazing Songkran Festival Experience 2017 (closure time: 18.00-20.30 Hrs.)
One lane of inbound traffic between Sukhumvit 22 and Pathumwan Intersection (Sukhumvit 22-Asoke Intersection – Ploen Chit Intersection – Ratchaprasong Intersection – Siam Square Junction – Pathumwan Intersection) will be closed to allow the floats and performers to pass and to ensure the safety of people watching along the route (closure time: 20.00-21.30 Hrs.)
TAT would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience to visitors and locals and have taken every precaution to ensure that delays are temporary.
People should also be advised that the Amazing Songkran Festival Experience 2017 will be taking place in Bangkok’s Benchasiri Park from 8-13 April from 16.00 to 20.00 hrs so there could be minor disruptions to traffic in this area of Sukhumvit.
The BTS SkyTrain and MRTA Underground services will be running to a normal timetable on the evening of 8 April and throughout the Songkran holiday allowing people to access most areas of central Bangkok.
