Thailand’s Commitment to Sustainable Tourism
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is showcasing its vibrant culture and sustainable tourism at the World Travel Market (WTM) 2024 in London from 5-7 November. Celebrating its 43rd year at the event, TAT’s theme, “Ignite Thailand: Soft Power and Sustainability,” highlights the country’s dedication to eco-friendly travel. The Thailand Stand, spanning 400 square metres, fosters connections between buyers and sellers, emphasizing traditional Thai crafts, indigenous fabrics, and sustainable practices. The presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana underlines Thailand’s royal support and deep cultural heritage, as she engages with visitors through a special activity involving the collaboration of TAT and Teddy House.
Showcasing Cultural Richness and Partnerships
The exhibit features textiles from provinces famed for their natural dyeing techniques, such as Mae Hong Son and Lampang. The stand also offers DIY experiences, allowing visitors to create souvenirs from Thai fabrics. Information on Thai Craft Destinations and specialty travel routes focusing on low-carbon, luxury, and wellness experiences is provided. Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, highlights the WTM’s role in promoting Thailand’s global tourism appeal, supporting 42 Thai sellers, including hotels and Destination Management Companies. Esteemed partners like Thai Airways and Bangkok Airways enhance this collaborative spirit, reinforcing Thailand’s appeal as a premier travel destination.
UK Tourism and Future Prospects
The UK remains a pivotal market, with Thailand welcoming 739,837 UK visitors between January and October 2024, aiming to reach one million by year-end. UK visitors, mostly independent travelers, frequently visit Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai. They stay an average of 18.33 nights, spending approximately 68,488 Baht per trip. Popular travel motivations include leisure, family visits, and sports tourism. The upcoming high season from November 2024 to March 2025 promises 552 direct flights between the UK and Thailand, providing 174,864 seats, thus facilitating better access to Thailand’s diverse offerings. This strategic approach enhances Thailand’s status as a sought-after destination for UK travelers.
