TAT and Golden Century Tour have collaborated to organize the “Special Charter Sawasdee Train” from Kuala Lumpur to Hat Yai. The purpose of this initiative is to promote Thai-Malaysian tourism by featuring cultural events and local attractions from 26th to 29th July 2024.
TAT and Golden Century Tour Organize Special Charter Sawasdee Train
Hat Yai, 30 July 2024 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Malaysia’s leading tour operator, Golden Century Tour and Travel Sdn Bhd, organized the “Special Charter Sawasdee Train” package tour on the Kuala Lumpur – Hat Yai route from 26 to 29 July 2024. Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, highlighted Hat Yai’s popularity among Malaysians due to its accessibility by air, road, and rail. This package aligns with the government’s vision to establish Thailand as a tourism hub.
Welcoming Ceremonies and Exclusive Offers
The train departed from Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station on 26 July, arriving at Hat Yai Junction the same day. About 400 tourists, predominantly Malaysians, were greeted with flower garlands, Thai performances, and lion dances, showcasing Hat Yai’s Thai-Chinese cultural ties. Songkhla Province presented welcome gifts, and Makro Hat Yai offered 400-Baht shopping coupons. Additionally, the “Lotus’s Amazing Fruits Buffet Fest” allowed tourists to enjoy fresh Thai fruits from 26-28 July 2024.
Ongoing Rail Tourism Initiatives
Apart from the special charter, KTM Berhad, Malaysia’s rail service, is scheduled to operate eight more special train trips named “MY Sawasdee” between Kuala Lumpur and Hat Yai this year, especially during public and school holidays. Bookings are available via www.ktmb.com.my. Hat Yai, near Malaysia’s border, is Songkhla’s commercial hub and boasts attractions like Songkhla Lake, Hat Yai Cable Car, Samila Beach’s mermaid statue, and diverse markets and cuisines due to its Chinese, Malay, and Thai population.
