- Thailand is expected to welcome 36 million foreign tourists in 2024, thanks to economic improvement and government tourism support policies.
- The increase in foreign arrivals is attributed to visa exemption policies, new flight routes, and higher flight frequencies.
- While Kasikorn Research predicts 36 million foreign arrivals, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports expects around 40 million arrivals by 2024, generating significant tourism revenue.
Thailand’s tourism industry is set to soar with the welcoming of 36 million foreign tourists in 2024, showcasing the country’s popularity as a top travel destination. This remarkable growth can be attributed to the introduction of new airline routes and increased flight frequency, making it easier for travelers to visit the Land of Smiles. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has even more ambitious projections, forecasting 40 million foreign arrivals and a substantial 2.3 trillion THB in tourism revenue.
The Center’s estimates are based on the 6.4 million foreign arrivals recorded in the first two months of this year, a 50% increase from the previous year. It is projected that foreign arrivals by the end of the first quarter could reach 9.32 million, showing a positive sign for the rest of the year. Factors contributing to the increase include the improvement of the Thai economy, government tourism promotion policies, and visa exemption policies
Additionally, new airline routes and increased flight frequency to Thailand have also contributed to the rise in foreign arrivals. The estimates from KResearch are lower than those of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, which forecasts around 40 million foreign arrivals in 2024, generating approximately 2.3 trillion THB (65 billion USD) in tourism revenue.
