TAT reaffirms support for WWF Thailand’s ‘Travel Ivory Free’ campaign to promote sustainable tourism, discourage illegal ivory trade, and urge tourists to responsibly travel.
TAT Continues Support for WWF Thailand’s ‘Travel Ivory Free’ Campaign
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has reaffirmed its continuous support for the World Wide Fund for Nature International or WWF Thailand’s ‘Travel Ivory Free’ campaign. This campaign aims to encourage tourists to travel responsibly and stop buying ivory products. Key players in the travel and tourism industry as well as international organisations have joined together to show their commitment to help spread awareness and promote a more sustainable travel culture.
TAT’s Strong Support for the Campaign
Mr. Nithee Seeprae, TAT Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications, emphasized TAT’s support for the campaign since its inception in 2018. Through their public relations efforts, TAT urges tourists to be a part of the awareness-raising initiative. WWF Thailand initiated the ‘Travel Ivory Free’ campaign after China banned its domestic ivory trade in December 2017.
Pushing for Responsible Tourism
Thailand has strict penalties for those caught with illegal ivory items, including imprisonment and hefty fines. Despite efforts, Thailand remains a major destination for illegal ivory buyers. WWF Thailand continues to actively raise awareness to urge tourists to put an end to the illegal ivory trade and promote responsible and sustainable tourism experiences while in Thailand.
