BANGKOK (NNT) – Today marks the inaugural flight bringing 306 visa-free Chinese tourists to Thailand.
The warm welcome was led by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and included the Chinese Ambassador to Thailand as well as related ministers. The gesture was part of Thailand’s new policy to waive visa requirements for Chinese tourists.
The welcoming ceremony took place at Suvarnabhumi Airport’s D4 airplane bridge, served by AirAsia X flight XJ 761 from Xian to Suvarnabhumi. The flight carried a total of 341 passengers, among which were 306 Chinese tourists and 35 tourists from other countries.
Souvenirs of orchid garlands and elephant pants were gifted to all tourists. High-ranking officials from Thai AirAsia X also handed out AirAsia luggage tags. Representatives from the Tourism Authority of Thailand, donned in traditional Thai attire, held up signs written in Chinese that read “China and Thailand are One Family, Amazing Thailand. Welcome! Enjoy your time like family,” and “Travel more, Enjoy more.”
Prime Minister Srettha expressed confidence that the visa-free policy will substantially boost Thailand’s economy. However, he emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and positive experience of tourists from their arrival until their departure.
