Since mid-May 2024, significant price decreases in certain securities have been observed, with continuous declines leading to days where no bid volumes remain (floor out of bid), as seen with securities like NEX and NRF.
There are concerns about developments affecting the decline in trading conditions, including suggestions from the media that the decrease in prices may be due to short selling and program trading.
In April 2024, it was discovered that shareholders of the listed company had pledged a significant portion of their shares as collateral to the securities company, with NEX and NRF pledging about 20% and 38% of their paid-up capital, respectively.
Due to recent market conditions and the financial performance of listed companies, including declining earnings and negative price-to-earnings ratios, share prices have dropped to a level that has necessitated major shareholders to call for and force the sale of shares used as collateral.
This is the same case with many securities in the previous period. Therefore, the SET would like to inform investors of the facts for their investment decision making and request that they study the summary of the report of securities placed as collateral for debt repayment in margin accounts from https://www.set.or.th/th/market/statistics/market-statistics/margin-accounts to make investment decisions.
