Koh Kham, a small, pristine island off the coast of Trat Province, Thailand, has been listed for sale at a staggering 1.8 billion baht ($53.2 million).
The island, known for its white sand beaches and clear waters, is only about 10 rai (approximately 1.6 acres) in size and is currently owned by the proprietor of the “Mum Aroi” restaurant. The island has changed hands several times, likely due to restrictions on construction in the area.
The listing highlights Koh Kham’s natural beauty, featuring a sandbar and volcanic rock formations, and its proximity to Koh Mak, accessible by speedboat. While the island is privately owned, tourists are allowed to visit for a landing fee. However, there are no official accommodations on the island, only small structures and forested areas.
The sale listing also mentions a partially constructed resort project that was halted due to suspected violations, including sea encroachment and land encroachment. An inspection by local authorities in August 2024 revealed unauthorized construction beyond the legal boundary, including a seawall, pier, and accommodation facilities.
While the case was initially investigated, the Trat prosecutor declined to file charges and the relevant agencies did not appeal the decision. Despite the previous construction issues, the sale of Koh Kham presents an opportunity for interested buyers to acquire a piece of pristine paradise in Thailand, potentially for further development.
