Bus Inferno Tragedy Puts Thailand’s Road Safety Crisis in the Spotlight

The students on the bus spanned from 6 to 15 years old, ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 9. Initial reports indicated 23 fatalities, including 20 students and 3 teachers. The forensic team’s investigation revealed that the vehicle had an Isuzu truck body but displayed Mercedes-Benz logos on the front and rear.
According to a rescuer at the scene, the fire likely started after one of the tires exploded and the vehicle scraped against a road barrier. At the time of the incident, the teachers were unable to open the bus door, causing the students to inhale smoke and sustain burn injuries.
While the investigation into the specific causes of this particular accident is ongoing, the recurring nature of such incidents points to a systemic problem.
