In 2022, I explored Thailand’s scenic Mae Hong Son Loop on a motorbike, enjoying adventurous landscapes, charming towns, and a blend of cultures, while reflecting on traveling in my 30s.
In 2022, my husband and I embarked on a memorable journey through Thailand’s Mae Hong Son Loop, a scenic 400-mile route. Riding a small motorbike through mountainous terrains, I marveled at the beautiful landscapes while feeling slightly out of place among passing cars. With my husband as the driver, I clung to a single backpack on this thrilling ride, eager for adventure despite my worries about our chosen mode of transport.
While our trip wasn’t initially planned, we were drawn to the captivating nature of Mae Hong Son, famous among backpackers. Our week-long excursion was a test of endurance and a chance to explore lesser-known towns, vibrant markets, and stunning parks like Doi Inthanon. Each stop offered unique experiences, from hiking trails to local delicacies, making the trip unforgettable.
Completing the loop took about four days, allowing us to savor each destination. From enjoying local cuisine in Mae Sariang to reaching picturesque Pai, the journey was a perfect blend of challenge and reward. Returning to Chiang Mai felt like fast-forwarding to life after our mountain escapade, embracing both adventure and comfort at a luxurious stay.
