Thailand anticipates over 2 million South Korean tourists in 2023, particularly during the Chuseok holiday, overcoming competition from Japan and Vietnam with targeted promotions and high-quality hospitality.
Thailand is gearing up for an influx of South Korean tourists during the six-day Chuseok holiday next month. With expectations to reach a record 2 million visitors this year, Thai tourism operators remain confident despite competition from Vietnam and Japan.
By August 25, around 1.22 million South Koreans had already visited Thailand, with daily arrivals peaking at 6,000 to 7,000 on weekends.
Chuwit Sirivejkul from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) anticipates at least 23,000 tourists will visit between September 14-17, spending around 40,000 to 50,000 baht each. Although the Chuseok holiday is usually busy for locals, there remains a strong desire for international travel.
With flights fully resumed, the market is expected to grow further, potentially surpassing last year’s 1.66 million South Korean visitors. TAT plans to promote tourism in South Korea to replace weaker markets like Japan and China, while also targeting younger generations for future visits.
