The Tourism Authority of Thailand urges travelers to follow FDA guidelines on importing health products for personal use to ensure compliance and avoid issues at customs, supporting health and safety standards.
Guidelines for Importing Health Products to Thailand
On 14 November 2024, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) encouraged travelers to consult the Thai Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) latest guidelines regarding the importation of health products for personal use. This advisory ensures a seamless entry process, whether importing items directly or via mail, aligning with Thailand’s emphasis on health and safety. The FDA provides clear instructions covering medicines, dietary supplements, cosmetics, and medical devices, urging tourists to become familiar with these guidelines to prevent customs delays or issues.
Carrying and Mailing Health Products
Travelers may bring health products into Thailand with specific quantity and documentation requirements. Medicine is limited to a 30-day supply with original packaging and correct labeling, and controlled substances need prescriptions. Cosmetic imports are capped at 15 items with no more than three pieces per type, while food is restricted to 10 kilograms. Medical devices need necessary documentation. Importing by mail requires adherence to both on-person restrictions and labeling standards. Households can import limited hazardous substances, with Category I needing prior FDA notification.
Legal Compliance and Resources
Importing items like narcotics, cannabis, and unregistered products could result in penalties due to strict standards. Travelers with narcotic or psychotropic medications must comply with specific rules: a 30-day supply needs a prescription, while larger amounts need an FDA permit obtained 15 days before traveling. Upon arrival, medications must be declared at Customs. Travelers are encouraged to verify products’ compliance via the FDA’s website, offering resources and forms in English, reflecting Thailand’s dedication to maintaining high health standards for all international visitors.
