Submissions for the 2025 Oscar for Best International Feature are currently open, with the event set for March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. International features, which can include animated and documentary films, must be produced outside the U.S. and feature a majority of non-English dialogue. Films released between November 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024, are eligible, with submissions due by October 2, 2024.
Fifteen finalists will be shortlisted on December 17, 2024, followed by the announcement of five nominees on January 17, 2025. Last year, 88 entries were submitted, showcasing films like Japan’s “Perfect Days” and the winning “The Zone of Interest” from the UK.
Countries are making notable entries this year, with standout films like Thailand’s “How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies,” which has broken box office records in multiple Asian nations. Other submissions include Bangladesh’s “The Wrestler,” Argentina’s “Kill The Jockey,” and several from Latin American countries, contributing to a diverse range of voices in cinema.
