Deepening the US-Singapore Strategic Technology Partnership
The US and Singapore have agreed to enhance their “strategic technology partnership” by expanding collaboration in six critical and emerging technology areas. These include AI, critical infrastructure, biotechnology, and more. The visit of Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister to DC marked the inauguration of the first US-Singapore Critical and Emerging Technology Dialogue. This dialogue will facilitate discussions on the associated risks, opportunities, and national security implications of technological advancements in these six focus areas.
Bilateral initiatives and cooperation in key focus areas
Following the first CET Dialogue, both countries have committed to launching bilateral initiatives and strengthening cooperation in high-end and emerging technology domains. They will focus on AI, digital economy and data governance, biotechnology, critical infrastructure, defense innovation, technology supply chains, and quantum information science and technology.
Advancing critical infrastructure and technology supply chains
In addition to the above, the US and Singapore aim to enhance cooperation in critical infrastructure and technology supply chains. They will promote climate-friendly and resilient critical infrastructure, such as telecommunications networks, undersea cables, and cloud computing in both countries and their partner nations. Building upon the US-Singapore Climate Partnership, established in 2021, the two countries will also support decarbonization and renewable energy development in the ASEAN region. Other commitments made during the CET Dialogue were also announced.
