Continental Tyres (Thailand) plans to invest 13.4 billion baht to expand its Rayong plant, increasing output to 7.8 million tyres annually and creating 600 jobs, enhancing Thailand’s tyre production status.
The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) has officially approved an investment application from Continental AG’s subsidiary, Continental Tyres (Thailand). The company plans to invest 13.4 billion baht (approximately USD 400 million) to expand its tyre plant located in Rayong Province. This expansion is set to increase annual production by 3 million high-performance radial tires, primarily for export, and will raise total production to 7.8 million tires per year.
This investment will also enhance local employment, creating an additional 600 jobs to bring the total workforce to 1,500. The expansion includes the construction of a new building and the installation of advanced machinery imported from Germany, ensuring the use of locally sourced natural rubber in tire manufacturing.
According to Mr. Narit Therdsteerasukdi, BOI Secretary General, Continental’s investment underscores Thailand’s capabilities as a world-class manufacturing hub for high-quality tires. The initiative consolidates Thailand’s reputation as a significant player in the global automotive industry and reinforces investor confidence in the region as a strategic production base.
