B.Grimm Power imported 65,000 tons of LNG, becoming Thailand’s first private company to distribute LNG to small power producers, supporting government natural gas liberalization to reduce electricity costs.
B.Grimm Power has marked a significant milestone as the first private company in Thailand to import LNG for small power producers, using its subsidiary, B.Grimm LNG. The firm imported 65,000 tons of LNG through PTT’s Map Ta Phut LNG terminal in Rayong, sourcing the cargo from Japan’s Sumitomo.
The Methane Julia Louise vessel delivered the shipment on August 25, arriving from Shell’s QCLNG plant in Australia. In this initial phase, B.Grimm Power plans to supply regasified LNG to ten of its combined cycle co-generation plants.
This development supports Thailand’s natural gas liberalization policy aimed at reducing electricity generation costs. Previously, in March 2022, B.Grimm LNG secured a deal with PTT to utilize the Map Ta Phut terminal, which has a capacity for up to 1.20 million tons of LNG annually.
