The Department of Business Development, part of the Ministry of Commerce, and the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to address the challenges of mule accounts and the improper use of Thai nominees. This collaboration aims to enhance investigations by facilitating data sharing and joint efforts between the two agencies.
The MOU will allow the CIB to access data from the DBD, enabling faster fact-finding investigations and the collection of comprehensive evidence for prosecuting offenders.
Deputy Minister of Commerce Napon C Sanang emphasized the government’s priority in addressing tech-related crimes, particularly focusing on mule account verification. The cabinet has directed the Minister of Commerce to take urgent action within 30 days to address this issue. Authorities have already identified 602 mule accounts, which are estimated to have caused damages of 680 million baht.
